Tree Bee cosmetics and hand creams are based on natural bee products such as beeswax and honey. However, they are also blended with other ingredients to create something special.

What are the ingredients? And what are their functions?

In this post, I’ll go through some of the added ingredients that go into the Tree Bee cosmetic product ranges and explain why they’re there and what they do.

Tree Bee uses 100% natural ingredients, and here’s why.

When Gail started to design the Tree Bee cosmetics ranges, there was one rule she was going to stick to; all the ingredients in Tree Bee’s cosmetic products are natural. What would be the point in using bee based elements, some of the best natural ingredients for skincare, if you then added a load of synthetic ingredients to them? It wouldn’t make any sense. As a company, Tree Bee are very environmentally aware and are keen to protect the natural environment.

Being holistic

If you are going to make something like a bee based hand cream or lip balm, the things you add should enhance the product. The approach should be holistic, creating something far better than the individual ingredients on their own.

The critical thing about bee based ingredients is that they’re natural and work in harmony with your body. Adding unnatural chemical-based ingredients would undermine that.

The added ingredients to Tree Bee cosmetics are there to add something. Of course, some essential oils are there to make things smell nicer and be more appealing, but Gail chooses extra ingredients carefully. They are selected because they create a better product that’s more effective at its purpose. It’s a holistic approach; all the parts combined make something better and more effective than the individual components.

Shea Butter

The Shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa) grows in a narrow fertile belt of savannah stretching from east to west Africa. The tree produces fruit like a plum, but the kernel contains oil which forms the basis of Shea Butter.

Shea Butters health-giving properties are well known. It has been used for skincare since Egyptian times, and it has been traded as a commodity throughout Europe since the middle ages.

Tree Bee uses it in Body Butter as a natural complement to the bee based components.

BodyButter

Shea Butter is an excellent moisturiser which helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, scars and stretch marks. It has anti-inflammatory properties which can help in the healing process. Shea Butter can strengthen skin and provides relief for minor cuts and burns. Something else that makes it suitable for your skin is that it’s high in vitamins A and E.

Shea butter is so good, Tree Bee recommend it as a tremendous whole-body skincare treatment.

Oatmilk

When I think of oats, my mind first goes to porridge. I love my breakfast. But did you know oats have had a role in skincare for thousands of years? Ancient authors Hippocrates and Dioscorides refer to oats in their writings. But what can it do for your skin?

Oatmilk’s main asset is to reduce inflammation, so inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis will benefit. Oats are also good at cleansing and hydrating the skin, so it’s good for dry or sensitive skin.

HoneySoap

Oats contain a host of useful skin-enhancing compounds such as phenols, saponins and beta-glucans; all components that will benefit the skin.

Mandarin

The aroma of mandarin is so uplifting. The tangy, citrus smell stands out and is so distinct it can trigger memories. Well, it certainly does for me, Christmas being one of them. But there is more to Mandarin than just a pleasant smell.

Firstly, Mandarin is rich in antioxidants which means it contributes to formulations as an anti-ageing component. Helping to neutralise ‘free-radicals’ Mandarin oil helps prevent damage to skin cells, part of the skin ageing process.

NaturalHandWash

Mandarin oil has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, both good reasons to include it in a skincare product. Mandarin oil can help to even out your skin tone and protect your complexion.

May Chang

May Chang comes from a tree known as the Chinese Pepper or Mountain Pepper. Native to areas of South-east Asia including China and Indonesia. May Chang supplies an essential oil extracted from pepper-like fruits by the steam distillation process. Leaves are also a source for the oil, but not as rich as the fruits.

The aroma of May Chang is lemony and fruity. The extract acts as a tonic on the skin, soothing and softening. It has a mildly astringent property which makes it especially suitable for oily skin that is prone to acne. Because of this, lots of commercial skincare products designed for oily skin contain it.

The astringent properties also make the skin feel firm and radiant.

Coriander

When used in cooking, coriander is one of those herbs that some people love and some hate. The smell is pungent and rich. But cooking is cooking; here we’re using coriander for quite a different purpose.

Coriander is another antioxidant ingredient helping slow the ageing process and suppress those free-radicals. High in beta-carotene, vitamin C and iron, coriander is like a shopping list of healthy ingredients. Not only this, but it also has anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties as well. Coriander can help with the treatment of acne, blackheads and dry skin. Seriously, why wouldn’t you want to put it on your skin if it wasn’t already destined for your curry?

Proven with time and with now science

What’s great about all these natural ingredients is the benefits of most of them have been known for a long time. Science didn’t invent these ingredients in a lab; nature did. But science has checked them out and proven our ancestors were right to use them.

There is so much to tell you about our natural ingredients; this post is going to stretch to another one which we will publish here soon
