Conflict Bumble Bees
Although we love these Bees we appreciate that not everyone feels the same way and in some exceptional cases the Bees will need to be removed as part of our Tree Bee adoption scheme instead of calling in a pest controller to kill the nest. Remember these Bees are completely harmless as long as you leave them alone, in all conflict situations our advice is as follows:
- Leave them alone and enjoy them, they will not harm you, they do not cause damage to your property, they will not burrow through into your house, they are beneficial and they will leave on their own by late August.
- If they are nesting in a gap in your wall, eaves of your roof, under your roof tiles leave them alone, we have tried to access nests like this in the past above peoples bedroom windows and you cannot get to them. If this is genuine problem please contact us before you contact a pest controller to kill the nest, we may have an alternative solution.
- If the Bees are nesting in a bird box, compost heap, central heating outlet, tumble dryer vent or anywhere else at low level and are in genuine conflict with you and are causing you distress then call us to discuss having the nest re-homed to one of our volunteers. There is a charge for removing the nest as we have to visit your property, take the nest away and then deliver it to one of our Tree Bee volunteers where we will secure the nest free of charge.
- Please do not allow anyone to tamper with the nest or have the nest destroyed, the bees are harmless but will quite rightly defend the nest if threatened. Please be aware that if you do call a pest controller they will kill the Bees but they will leave inaccessible nests containing dead Bees behind, this will attract other wildlife and flies to the dead nest which is far worse than leaving the Bees to leave naturally.
Currently our sister company TRG Pest Control www.trgpestcontrol.com rescue they are approved by us and will not harm the Bees, they can offer a re-homing service in the North West of England in the postcode areas displayed in the footer of this page. With your help we intend to fundraise and increase this service to other areas of the UK as soon as possible so that we can save as many of these Bees as possible.
Conflict Honey Bees
During the summer of 2014 we have been asked to expand our bee rescue service to include Honey Bees that have set up home in the cavity walls and chimneys of householders. Honey Bees are completely different and have given us a completely different challenge to our usual Bumble Bee customers. There will be a new page published on this site soon to show you how we have met the new challenge which is in our usual fashion “Head On”.
Check back soon.
